Privacy
This page explains the information LakeList uses to provide local lake discovery, saved lakes, analytics, and optional assistant features.
Last updated July 21, 2026If you grant browser location permission, LakeList uses the coordinates in the current browser session to center maps and select a nearby state. LakeList stores the resulting state preference, not your raw browser coordinates. If location is unavailable, hosting-provided regional headers may supply an approximate state. You can deny or revoke location permission in your browser.
When analytics is configured, LakeList uses Google Analytics to record page views and interactions such as affiliate placement impressions or clicks. The implementation requests IP anonymization, but Google may still process device, browser, referrer, and usage information under its own policies. LakeList's hosting and security providers may process ordinary request details, including IP address, user agent, requested URL, and timestamps, to deliver and protect the site.
If you use the optional lake assistant, LakeList processes your question, the relevant lake route, and limited recent conversation history to return an answer. A short-lived session cookie limits use for about 30 minutes. Session and network identifiers are hashed before they are sent to the assistant backend. Cloudflare Turnstile may process network and device information when human verification is required. Do not submit sensitive personal information in an assistant question.
LakeList links to official agencies, maps, lodging, retailers, and other third-party sites. Those sites receive information normally sent when you follow a link and apply their own privacy policies. When an approved affiliate placement is enabled, LakeList may record the placement and destination so a commission can be attributed.
You can clear LakeList cookies and local storage in your browser, remove saved lakes through the Saved Lakes page, deny location access, block third-party analytics through browser controls, and avoid the optional assistant. Local data remains until you remove it or clear the site's browser storage. Third-party retention is controlled by the applicable provider.
LakeList will update this notice if it adds accounts, payments, user-submitted content, new tracking, or materially different data handling. The updated date above identifies the current version.
