The 25 Deepest Lakes in Wisconsin

Wisconsin's deepest water is a matter of public record, not blog lore. Every depth on this list is the documented maximum from DNR lake records — the same figure on the lake's survey sheet — and every entry links to a full profile with access points and depth maps where available.

372 Wisconsin lakes are at least 50 acres with a documented maximum depth of at least 40 feet. Updated July 2026.

Methodology

How we rank Wisconsin's deepest lakes

  • Ranked strictly by documented maximum depth from DNR lake records. No estimates, no hearsay depths.
  • Lakes without a documented maximum depth are excluded rather than guessed at.
  • Lakes under 50 acres — or without documented acreage — are excluded from rankings.
  • Public access is shown for every lake but never affects the ranking — a deep lake ranks whether or not you can launch on it.

Every number on this page comes from the same public agency records that power each lake's profile, and the list is recomputed as that data updates — it cannot silently go stale the way a hand-written top-10 does.
