Management contextThe report is specific to West Bass Lake and covers a June 21-22, 2022 late-spring panfish fyke-net survey of six net-nights. Black crappie values are retained but explicitly marked as incidental because this survey was not designed to assess that population.

The first panfish-netting survey of West Bass Lake found desirable bluegill abundance but poor bluegill size structure, lower pumpkinseed abundance and poor size structure, and high incidental black crappie CPUE.

  • The report states that this survey was not designed to assess black crappie and that observed crappie size structure may not represent the overall population.
  • DNR scheduled the next survey for 2027 and recommended age-and-growth work to evaluate poor panfish size structure.
