This is a smooth mathematical model, not a survey - real holes, bars, and drop-offs will differ. Community sonar (C-MAP Genesis) overlays where recorded. Not for navigation.

DNR water check

Water quality quick take

Historical volunteer-monitoring record for this lake.

Last sampled Jul 2006Volunteer monitoring 1992–2006

DNR volunteers monitored this lake for about 14 years, ending in 2006. In 1992 the water showed hazy water (~3.6 ft Secchi), elevated algae (chlorophyll ~14.3 µg/L), and elevated nutrients (phosphorus ~41 µg/L). After 20 years without samples, these readings describe the lake as it was, not as it is.

The DNR station record reports activity through 2022, but LakeList holds no readings after 2006 — check the station reports for anything newer.

Wisconsin DNR fisheries survey

Fish population survey

Structured LakeList extraction from the 2024 DNR fisheries survey. Population estimates, density, and catch-rate indices use different units, methods, and scopes, so each value is presented in its original form rather than normalized against a different measure.

Source PDF
Adult walleye estimateNot reportedPopulation model unavailable
Walleye densityNot reportedManagement target unavailable
Species indexed869 extracted survey metrics
Survey indicatorsValues keep their source unit and method; unlike measures are not scaled or compared.
Management contextFlowage-wide two-year 2023-2024 assessment; annual and gear/cohort scopes remain separate, and 2024 muskellunge recapture conditions are explicitly limited.

DNR documented a healthy muskellunge and largemouth-bass fishery, abundant small panfish, low pike and walleye abundance, and insufficient muskellunge recaptures for a population estimate.

  • Only one previously marked muskellunge was recaptured in 2024, so no muskellunge population estimate is promoted.
  • Electrofishing was ineffective because of low conductivity; largemouth-bass results remain multi-gear sample observations, not an abundance estimate.
  • Historical stocking rows, management targets and qualitative abundance labels are excluded from numeric survey metrics.

Depth FAQ

How deep is Potter Flowage?

Potter Flowage is 24 feet deep at its deepest point and averages about 7 feet, according to Wisconsin DNR records.

Is there a free depth map of Potter Flowage?

Yes. LakeList publishes a free interactive depth contour map of Potter Flowage at a typical 5-foot interval, with an optional 3D underwater view, derived from LakeList depth model survey data.

Where does the Potter Flowage depth map come from?

The interactive depth contours are derived from LakeList depth model. Each contour set passes a visual QA review against the source document before it is published. The depths are a modeled estimate calibrated to the lake's documented maximum depth - not a survey, and not for navigation.
