Water quality quick take

Historical volunteer-monitoring record for this lake.

Last sampled Sep 2019Volunteer monitoring 2003–2019

DNR volunteers monitored this lake for about 16 years, ending in 2019. Its final monitored summers showed hazy water (~4.5 ft Secchi) in 2019 and elevated algae (chlorophyll ~14 µg/L) in 2003. After 7 years without samples, these readings describe the lake as it was, not as it is.

Listed as impaired on the DNR/EPA water-condition assessment — see the notice on this page for details.

Wisconsin DNR fisheries survey

Fish population survey

Structured LakeList extraction from the 2023 DNR fisheries survey. Population estimates, density, and catch-rate indices use different units, methods, and scopes, so each value is presented in its original form rather than normalized against a different measure.

Walleye1 adult fish/acreEstimated adult walleye density · Early-spring fyke-net mark and electrofishing recapture estimate
Management contextThe report combines separate early-spring fyke-netting, early-spring electrofishing, late-spring electrofishing and fall electrofishing surveys. Each metric retains its report-stated gear, season and sample scope; values are not combined across gears unless DNR did so explicitly.

The 2023 surveys estimated one adult walleye and one adult northern pike per acre, found mid-range largemouth bass abundance with unusually strong size structure, and found moderate bluegill abundance but poorer electrofishing size structure than in 2013.

  • Stocking remains the primary walleye recruitment source; natural recruitment alone is not expected to sustain the fishery.
  • DNR recommends targeted spring and fall fyke netting for black crappie in 2032 because the 2023 samples were not representative enough for population inference.
