More accurate than a pure model, but still an estimate. Not for navigation.

Structured LakeList extraction from the 2025 DNR fisheries survey. Population estimates, density, and catch-rate indices use different units, methods, and scopes, so each value is presented in its original form rather than normalized against a different measure.

Management contextKusel Lake spring electrofishing indices. Panfish were collected over 1.0 shoreline mile and gamefish over the 1.9 miles shocked. Northern pike and walleye were incidental bycatch, not target-population assessments.

Wisconsin DNR's one-night 2025 spring electrofishing survey found very high bluegill abundance but bluegill size structure below the desired balanced range. Largemouth bass abundance and size structure were within DNR's near-term management ranges, although DNR would like more large bass. Black crappie, pumpkinseed and yellow perch occurred at moderate abundance in the one-mile panfish sample. Northern pike and walleye were incidental bycatch and are not represented as population indices.

  • Reduce bluegill abundance toward 350 fish per mile and improve bluegill PSD toward 50; the experimental regulation expires April 1, 2026 and is replaced by a year-round 10-fish panfish bag limit.
  • Maintain largemouth bass abundance around 50-60 fish per mile and seek PSD above 65; DNR suggests investigating rule changes as one possible tool.
  • Leave downed trees and aquatic plants in nearshore habitat where possible as high-water habitat recedes.
  • Do not interpret the two northern pike or two walleye as population indices because these species were bycatch in a bass-and-panfish survey.

Depth FAQ

How deep is Kusel Lake?

Kusel Lake is 29 feet deep at its deepest point, according to Wisconsin DNR records.

Is there a free depth map of Kusel Lake?

Yes. LakeList publishes a free interactive depth contour map of Kusel Lake at a typical 5-foot interval, with an optional 3D underwater view, derived from C-MAP Genesis community sonar (derived) survey data.

Where does the Kusel Lake depth map come from?

The interactive depth contours are derived from C-MAP Genesis community sonar (derived). Each contour set passes a visual QA review against the source document before it is published. The depths are derived from community sonar recordings (C-MAP Genesis Social Map, used with permission), with gaps between recordings interpolated; not for navigation.
