Secchi clarity is how deep a black-and-white disk stays visible from the surface — more feet means clearer water.

Chlorophyll-a is an algae pigment; higher values signal more algae in the water column.

Total phosphorus is a nutrient that feeds algae and aquatic plants. It is not a weed survey — depth, bottom type, water movement, and management change the actual lake experience.

Management contextOnly observations from the six Lake Wisconsin fall-electrofishing stations are promoted as metrics. Separate Kilbourn Dam tailwater observations and comparison-waterbody values in the same report are excluded.

The 2025 fall electrofishing assessment sampled 14.3 miles at six Lake Wisconsin stations to evaluate walleye and sauger recruitment and monitor other gamefish. Lake-specific catches included 253 walleye and 467 sauger; young-of-year catch rates were below their long-term medians but improved from 2024. Smallmouth bass abundance ranked in the upper quartile of the Lake Wisconsin fall-survey series.

  • The report recommends conducting the fall survey one to two weeks later in October to improve temperature and visibility conditions.
  • The 2025 Lake Wisconsin young-of-year walleye and sauger catch rates were below their 1993-2025 medians but increased from the record-low or low 2024 values.
  • Spring surveys or summer hoop netting remain the preferred assessment methods for northern pike, muskellunge and catfish; their fall catches should be interpreted cautiously.

Depth FAQ

How deep is Lake Wisconsin?

Lake Wisconsin is 24 feet deep at its deepest point, according to Wisconsin DNR records.

Is there a free depth map of Lake Wisconsin?

Yes. LakeList publishes a free interactive depth contour map of Lake Wisconsin at a typical 5-foot interval, with an optional 3D underwater view, derived from C-MAP Genesis community sonar (derived) survey data.

Where does the Lake Wisconsin depth map come from?

The interactive depth contours are derived from C-MAP Genesis community sonar (derived). Each contour set passes a visual QA review against the source document before it is published. The depths are derived from community sonar recordings (C-MAP Genesis Social Map, used with permission), with gaps between recordings interpolated; not for navigation.
